Life and Consciousness
Our aim is to create a scientifically sound basis for spiritual work: Attempting to understand and apply means to better cope with the rapidly changing realities and energies in our solar system and on Earth.
Ascension is a often used word, and with a number of definitions - we define Ascension this way:
“Ascension' describe a quickening and realignment of consciousness. This shift is understood both as due to global phenomenon, and as due to personal effort.”
Science's view of ascension: The 'suddenness' in scientific terms lasted billions of years! (Which still in relative terms is relatively short time compared to the lifespan of the universe). All development happen as a result of random events; the main steps are:
From chaos to order - the known universe comes into being
Life's origin from order to life – From life to intelligent life
This article will in general terms explore the scientific views related to Ascension.
'Ascension' describe a quickening and realignment of consciousness.
THIS MAP OF THE ANCIENT SKY SHOWS THE MINUTE VARIATIONS IN TEMPERATURE AND DENSITY DISCOVERED BY THE TEAM LED BY LBL ASTROPHYSICIST GEORGE SMOOT. OVER BILLIONS OF YEARS, GRAVITY MAGNIFIED THESE SMALL DIFFERENCES INTO THE CLUSTERS OF GALAXIES WE OBSERVE TODAY.
From chaos to order - the known universe
According to the current scientific theory, everything started at the - in literal terms - sudden Big Bang. (Main event lasting a few minutes). Here all matter that exist in our universe, first in the form of light, burst out of a black hole and expanded into our present universe, creating all there is in the process. The expanding light formed particles, atoms and matter, gradually becoming stars and star systems.
One such star system, our solar system, had a planet - Earth
From order to life – Life's origin
Todays scientists do not believe in an underlying purpose, things happen either according to laws or at random When I studied biology in the seventies, the following was textbook knowledge:
“Life arose by spontaneous generation. Under a chemically reducing atmosphere energized by lightning and by UV light from the sun, Earth's early oceans collected the chemical building blocks of life, forming a vast organic soup. Here, simple organic molecules (monomers) linked up (polymerized) to form complex macromolecules. Eventually, enough protein and DNA molecules randomly assembled to form the first living cell - a microbe which grew, divided, and replicated itself.”
This theory has run into problems, basically because calculations show that there would not be time enough to create life in the 4.5 billion years since Earth was formed, let alone intelligent human life by random events in semi organic matter.
A possible approximation of this figure is here: “What is the probability of synthesizing a protein with a specific sequence? Let us simplify the situation first. For example, if there are 17 students in a class, how many possible ways exist for them to order themselves in a line? It would take the students a long time to physically try all the possibilities since there are over 355 trillion different ways. If the number of students were increased to 20, equal to the number of amino acids that exist, the number of possible ways would be over 1018 different ways, the number of seconds in 4.5 billion years!
The current scientific understanding of human development is well presented here:
From life to intelligent life
The Earth is presumed to have existed 4.5 billion years.
(see: http://pubs.usgs.gov/gip/geotime/age.html), Humans on Earth has according to present day scientists been here for more than 4 million years. This means humans have existed in round figures, 0.1 % of the Earth's lifespan. Translated to the clock, if we say that the earth' age is currently 12 hours, then humans have existed 43 seconds.
The panspermia theory
We can safely summarize that if we stick to a theory of random creation, we need more time than Earth history can give. In fact, a creation theory based on nothing but randomly occuring events will make evolution so unlikely, that it requires cosmic time for it to happen. This means that it requires that life originated way before Earth, somewhere else, and was brought to us by some means – this is what the panspermia theory postulates.
If life arrived from space – by what means did it arrive?
The current scientific theory suggest that life arrived on Earth embedded in 'dirty snowballs', comets, hitting earth. It is easy to imagine that this could have happened, since it still is happening.
Water arrived and still arrive with the possible imprints of life in the water as molecules, germs or even vibrations, Rupert Sheldrake-style. We will explain more what we mean by 'Rupert Sheldrake style' in the article Esoteric aspects of conscious development.
(See also http://www.theosophy-nw.org/theosnw/science/prat-shl.htm)
Let us first make it clear that even if life probably evolved elsewhere than Earth, there is irrefutable evidence that life has further evolved once established on Earth
What was the force behind life's ascension through the different stages visible in fossilized records on earth today – was it natural selection a la Darwin, was it interferences from superior intelligence a la Stanley Kubrick's 2001, was it the resonance of intelligence from the morphic field Sheldrake-style, embedded in life as it arrived from cosmos? What arrived from space, what evolved on Earth?
What we don't know is whether it was life's simple building-blocks that arrived from space, and the rest happened in “Laboratory-Earth”. Or it was simple life, like bacterias that arrived, and Earth took over, or it was higher species arrive and Earth took over? Or maybe the whole lot, so life, at least at certain times of Earth' evolution had parallel strands of life-evolution happening simultaneously.
'Random' is the mantra
“Homo sapiens did not appear on the earth, just a geologic second ago, because evolutionary theory predicts such an outcome based on themes of progress and increasing neural complexity. Humans arose, rather, as a fortuitous and contingent outcome of thousands of linked events, any one of which could have occurred differently and sent history on an alternative pathway that would not have led to consciousness “
From Evolution of Life on the Earth: http://www.brembs.net/gould.html
The Panspermia theory operates with a theory of consciousness existing as a result of complex matter - but Is consciousness a product of matter? A scientific study into this is needed! Is consciousness a product of matter as present-day, and maybe especially yesterdays science claims? Or is consciousness an all-pervading cosmic phenomenon as esoteric science has always claimed?
The matter-before-consciousness theory came about because of the need for science to become 'objective', establish rules that would make findings quantifiable, and separate from the power of the church. The development in science since Einstein, not least quantum physics makes a new scientific study into this old schism very relevant.
The ascension of Man's consciousness. Is science right – that life is a random event - or does life have a purpose? According to present scientific thinking, the ascension of consciousness, 'from amoeba to Einstein' is a random event. There is a number of scientist that have tried to challenge this. Fritjof Capra, talked about all things interconnectedness, David Bohm about the universe being more like a thought than a machine. Both men are well-known theoretical physicists. James N. Gardner, is a present day science writer with an intriguing theory. “James N. Gardner presents a startling hypothesis for how our apparently bio-friendly universe began and what its ultimate destiny will be. Originally presented in peer-reviewed scientific journals, his radical “Selfish Biocosm” hypothesis proposes that life and intelligence have not emerged in a series of Darwinian accidents but are essentially hardwired into the cycle of cosmic creation, evolution, death, and rebirth. He argues that the destiny of highly evolved intelligence (perhaps our distant progeny) is to infuse the entire universe with life, eventually to accomplish the ultimate feat of cosmic reproduction by spawning one or more “baby universes,” which will themselves be endowed with life generating properties. In this explanation of the role of life in the cosmos, Gardner presents an eloquent and lucid synthesis of the most recent advances in physics, cosmology, biology, biochemistry, astronomy, and complexity theory. These disciplines increasingly find themselves approaching the frontier of what was once the exclusive province of philosophers and theologians. Gardner’s Selfish Biocosm hypothesis challenges both Darwinists and advocates of intelligent design, and forces us to reconsider how we ourselves are shaping the future of life and the cosmos.”
On the Website “Crystal links”, Ellie Crystal describes the Hedges crystal skull,
shown above. (the text here in excerpt): “In 1970, art conservator and restorer Frank Dorland was given permission by the Mitchell-Hedges estate to submit the quartz skull to tests conducted at the Hewlett-Packard Laboratories at Santa Clara, California.
From these tests, and from careful studies done by Dorland himself, the skull revealed a whole array of anomalies. When submersed in a benzyl alcohol bath, with a beam of light passing through, it was noted that both the skull and jaw piece had come from the same quartz block. What was astounding to the testers, however, is they found that the skull and jaw had been carved with total disregard to the natural crystal axis in the quartz.
In modern crystallography, the first procedure is always to determine the axis, to prevent fracturing and breakage during the subsequent shaping process. Yet, the skull's maker appears to have employed methods by which such concerns were not necessary.
The unknown artist also used no metal tools. Dorland was unable to find signs of any tell-tale scratch marks on the crystal, under high-powered microscopic analysis. Indeed, most metals would have been ineffectual, for the crystal has a specific gravity of 2.65, and a Mohs hardness factor of 7. In other words, even a modern penknife cannot make a mark on it. From tiny patterns in the quartz near the carved surfaces, Dorland determined the skull was first meticulously chiseled into a rough form, probably using diamonds. The finer shaping, grinding and polishing, Dorland believes, was done by applying innumerable applications of solutions of water and silicon-crystal sand. The big problem is, if these were the processes used, then, as Dorland calculated, it would mean that a total of 300 man-years of continuous labour was spent in making the skull. We must accept this almost unimaginable feat, or admit to the use of some form of lost technology in the skull's creation the likes of which we have no equivalent today.”
The scientific method has four steps
- Observation and description of a phenomenon or group of phenomena.
- Formulation of an hypothesis to explain the phenomena. In physics, the hypothesis often takes the form of a causal mechanism or a mathematical relation.
- Use of the hypothesis to predict the existence of other phenomena, or to predict quantitatively the results of new observations.
- Performance of experimental tests of the predictions by several independent experimenters and properly performed experiments.
The scientific method is intricately associated with science, the process of human inquiry that pervades the modern era on many levels. While the method appears simple and logical in description, there is perhaps no more complex question than that of knowing how we come to know things. In this introduction, we have emphasized that the scientific method distinguishes science from other forms of explanation because of its requirement of systematic experimentation. We have also tried to point out some of the criteria and practices developed by scientists to reduce the influence of individual or social bias on scientific findings. Further investigations of the scientific method and other aspects of scientific practice may be found in the references listed below.
Science is today insisting that the evolving of the universe and man took place in a linear time-environment. First Einstein, now the membrane theory is i making the whole idea of linear time less solid. Even without advanced physics, the theory of linear development can be refuted if science finds – and acknowledges the find of- just one artifact that cannot be made by a primitive technically un-evolved tribe. If such a thing is found, it must logically either have been made by an extraterrestrial, or by someone with higher technical skills than a linear model of human development allows for.
Such artifacts have been found!
Not only the crystal skulls as mentioned above, but the well known Egyptian Sphinx may hold this clue! And if that is the case, the dating of the “Kheops pyramid” is also in line for revision. - if just science bothered be scientific -
John Anthony West writes: “The water marks on the sphinx strongly invites a dating of the Sphinx existence that is inconsistent with modern archeology. In the time frame modern archeology believes the Sphinx to be constructed, no water erosion of that magnitude can have happened, it appears to be much older.”
A good article abut the unlikelihood of man having evolved in a linear fashion is here:
If science acknowledge the possible flaws in the linear time-model that is the current scientific theory, and start scientifically studying these inconsistencies, we may end up with a world view that much easier can accommodate for example the many myths from around the globe, a lot of artefacts like the crystal skull, the Baghdad battery etc (see TMG's article), can be explained, and the obvious high cultures from the past, for example the Sumerian's and the Egyptians, do not need to be described as if they are less evolved than our present culture
The last aspect of Ascension that we will cover in this article is a strange mixture of science and speculation: The Quickening.
Earth has its own unique frequency: The Schumann Resonance. The fundamental frequency of 7.8 Hz being determined by the size of the Earth. In the 1930s physicist Heinrich Schumann discovered a permanent standing wave in the atmosphere, resonating between the Earth's surface and the ionosphere. This wave, known as the Schumann Resonance, "Gaia's brain wave" or simply the Earth Wave, is fed by lightning discharges and the planet's internal electromagnetic activity. By a rather stunning coincidence, its frequency fluctuates slowly between 9 and 12 cycles per second - right in the heart of the human alpha range. […] The Schumann resonance is not increasing in frequency, and in fact already has multiple higher frequency spectral lines at the frequencies predicted by basic quantum physics. The fundamental frequency of 7.8 Hz being determined by the size of the Earth, the speed of light, and nothing else, with the higher frequency spectral lines in addition being determined by the size of Plank's constant…. None of which are changing.
The amplitude (i.e.intensity) of the Schumann resonance is, however, not constant, and appears to be extremely dependent upon tropical (and hence global) temperature. Indeed preliminary results seem to indicate that a mere one degree increase in temperature seems to be correlated with a doubling of the Schumann resonance.
The Schumann resonance frequency is fluctuating but not changing but the amplitude of the Schumann resonance is changing
The Human Brain also has natural frequencies for electromagnetic radiation. The natural frequencies of the Human Brain are:
- Beta waves (14 to 30 Hz),
- Alpha waves (8 to 13 Hz),
- Theta waves (4 to 7 Hz), and
- Delta waves (1 to 3 Hz).
Alpha frequencies have been associated with meditation and relaxation.
Theta frequencies have been associated with a dreamy, creative states.
It turns out that the Earth's Schumann resonances are "in tune" with the Human Brains's Alpha States and Theta States. The Schumann Resonances are actually observed by experiment to occur at several frequencies between 6 and 50 cycles per second; specifically 7.8, 14, 20, 26, 33, 39 and 45 Hertz,
with a daily variation of about +/- 0.5 Hertz.
We have not come across hard scientific evidence, but it is easy to imagine that fluctuations in these frequencies and even in the amplitude of them, may have far reaching consequences for at least humans, because of the resonance between these frequencies and the frequencies in the human brain.
